The screenplay of the new film from the Coen brothers (Raising Arizona, Fargo, O Brother where Art Thou) updates the screwball comedy style to modern-day Los Angeles, but with a devilishly twisting plot and that distinctive Coens' touch.

Miles Massey (George Clooney) is a fabulously successful shyster divorce attorney. Glutted with his own good fortune, he is in search of fresh challenges when he meets multiple-divorcee Marilyn Rexroth (Catherine Zeta-Jones): a hard-headed woman in pursuit of financial independence by serial matrimony. The stage is thus set for the mother of all battles of the sexes, as Miles and Marilyn square off, both personally and professionally.
